Why become a teacher?
The Department of Sciences at the Jan Evangelista Purkyně University offers accredited double major study programmes focused on preparing teachers, both in bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
Those who want to become teachers first study a bachelor’s study programme with focus on education (three-year study combined with another major). Students then continue in a follow-up master’s study programme with focus on teaching for secondary schools (two-year study combined with another major).
The Department of Sciences offers double major combinations in biology, physics, geography, chemistry, informatics or mathematics. The subjects can also be combined with other subjects from the Faculty of Education or Arts at our University. In addition to geography, all fields of study can also be studied in the combined form (education takes place on Friday, Saturday or Sunday according to the schedule).
All double major study programmes are designed as a combined study, i.e., the study programmes are provided in two types of study plans (maior and minor). The maior study plans are only implemented in combination with a minor study plan of associated study programmes to guarantee equal study in both fields in the given combination. Minor study plans in the bachelor’s degree do not include teaching practice and a thesis. Minor study plans in the master’s degree include a common core of educational and psychological subjects and a diploma thesis.
